نظرة عامة
Conservatorio Statale di Musica "Giuseppe Verdi" di Torino is a public institution of higher education in Turin (Piedmont, northwest Italy), founded in 1936. Its origins trace to the "Musical Institute of the City of Turin" established in 1866, which became the Royal Conservatory of Music "Giuseppe Verdi" before being elevated to state status in 1936 with authority to issue musical diplomas.
The Conservatorio offers first-cycle (Triennio Superiore di Musica, TSM) and second-cycle (Biennio Superiore di Musica, BSM) academic programmes accredited within the Italian AFAM (Alta Formazione Artistica e Musicale) system. Disciplines span classical instrument performance (strings, winds, keyboard, percussion, harp), vocal studies, jazz, electronic music, composition, choral and orchestral conducting, early music, music education, musicology and music librarianship. A postgraduate Master di II Livello in Bibliografia e Biblioteconomia Musicale is also offered.
With over 700 students and more than 130 professors, the institution emphasises individual instruction alongside ensemble and chamber music practice. Throughout the year it presents numerous free public concerts featuring students and international artists.
Tuition for domestic and EU students ranges from €2,300 to €2,500 per year depending on discipline; non-EU non-resident students pay a flat €3,500 per year. Part-time students receive a 30% reduction.
The Conservatorio holds an Erasmus Charter for Higher Education (ECHE) and maintains exchange agreements with conservatories and music academies across Europe. Foreign students must demonstrate Italian language proficiency at B2 level (B1 for Turandot project participants). Extra-EU students apply through the Universitaly portal.
Institutional and programme-level quality assurance is conducted by ANVUR under the Italian obligatory EQA system, and results are recorded in the DEQAR database (DEQARINST1569).
