University of Trás-os-Montes and Alto Douro

The University of Trás-os-Montes and Alto Douro (UTAD) is one of Portugal's youngest public universities, founded in Vila Real in 1979. Innovative, dynamic and research-oriented, it offers a broad range of undergraduate, master's and doctoral programmes across agriculture, engineering, health sciences, humanities and social sciences. Its campus, integrated in one of Europe's largest botanical gardens, provides modern laboratories and excellent conditions for study and research. UTAD has strong links with industry and the private sector, supports entrepreneurship, and actively welcomes international students seeking quality higher education in Portugal. The university hosts multiple research centres and participates in national and international R&D projects, offering research grants and doctoral scholarships in collaboration with FCT and other funding bodies.
