Halmstad University

Halmstad University (Högskolan i Halmstad) is a Swedish public higher education institution established in 1983, located in Halmstad in the Halland region of south-west Sweden. The university has approximately 12,000 students and is organised into four schools: the School of Health and Welfare, the School of Information Technology, the School of Business, Innovation and Sustainability, and the School of Education, Humanities and Social Sciences. It offers more than 50 degree programmes at bachelor, master and doctoral level, as well as over 200 individual courses. Study areas include engineering, computer science, business administration, health and nursing, teacher education, humanities, social sciences and natural sciences. Teaching takes place primarily in Swedish, with English used in many courses and programmes, particularly at advanced level. The main campus (Kvarteret Bærtling) is located approximately 2 km from Halmstad city centre and features modern lecture halls, specialised laboratories (including the Rydberg Laboratory, Fab Lab and Health Lab), a library, cafés, a student union and a gym. A second campus is located in Varberg. The university holds institutional quality assurance accreditation from the Swedish Higher Education Authority (UKÄ) and participates in the European Universities alliance 'Higher Education for Resilience-Oriented and Empowered Societies' (since 2024). It is also designated a National Sports University (Riksidrottsuniversitet).
