Sant'Anna School of Advanced Studies (Scuola Superiore Sant'Anna)

Sant'Anna School of Advanced Studies (Scuola Superiore Sant'Anna) is a public research university of excellence located in Pisa, Italy. Founded in 1987 as a special-statute university (scuola universitaria a ordinamento speciale), it offers a highly selective residential educational model. Students of the Corsi Ordinari live in residential colleges in the historic centre of Pisa, sharing a close-knit community of approximately 250 students. The institution offers first and second level Honours Courses, Master's degrees (I and II level), PhD programmes, Seasonal Schools, and advanced education (Alta Formazione) courses. Fields of study include economics and management, law, political sciences, data science, industrial and information engineering, agricultural sciences and plant biotechnology, and medical sciences. Research is conducted through dedicated institutes including BioRobotics, Economics, Mechanical Intelligence, Management, DIRPOLIS, Life Sciences, Plant Sciences, and TeCIP. The school is ranked 1st in Italy and 13th globally in the Times Higher Education Young University Rankings 2024. It participates in Erasmus+, the EELISA European University network, and has an agreement with MIT through the MISTI programme. International incoming students can join via Erasmus+ mobility for study or traineeship. The Alta Formazione unit is accredited by Regione Toscana (code IS0032).
